The History

Pariser Dermatology Specialists has been providing dermatology services to the Hampton Roads community for almost 75 years. The practice was founded by Dr. Harry Pariser who started practicing in 1946 in downtown Norfolk where his practice quickly became an established feature of the medical community. When Norfolk’s Medical Tower opened in 1960, Dr. Harry was one of the original physicians and dentists who inaugurated this medical facility, and the practice maintained an office at this location until early 2016.

Over the years, a series of significant changes have transformed Pariser Dermatology Specialists into the practice it is today. In 1984, a second office location was established in the Kempsville area of Virginia Beach. This second location was just the start of the practice’s geographic expansion across Hampton Roads. Since then, additional providers have joined the practice and many more offices have been added.

Changes in Dermatology

The practice of dermatology is infinitely more advanced than it was in 1946. It is often based on specific findings in the laboratory or under the microscope to back up the skilled eye of the dermatologist. Dermatologists have many more treatment options available to them, and due to the advancement of medical research, doctors are on the verge of understanding the genetic basis of many diseases. Over the years, Pariser Dermatology Specialists has expanded to include Mohs surgery, Dermatopathology, many forms of light therapies, and a full range of cosmetic services. We are also affiliated with Virginia Clinical Research, a research company specializing in the study of new treatments for skin conditions.

Commitment to the Community

Today, Pariser Dermatology Specialists has six locations across Hampton Roads and is one of the largest independent dermatology practices in the country. We have a strong relationship with EVMS, and our physicians act as teachers and mentors to medical students and residents. The practice of medicine in general, and dermatology in particular, is much more complex and challenging than it was in 1946. We have succeeded in keeping up with the latest medical and technological advances including an electronic health record and a patient portal where patients can communicate securely with our staff and providers. While there have been many changes over the years, our commitment to our patients and community remains the same. The physicians and staff of Pariser Dermatology Specialists strive to employ the science of dermatologic medicine and surgery in the finer art of helping people deal with and prevent the disorders that afflict the skin, hair, and nails.
